Prayer for Correct Thinking

Romans 12:2

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

“The real test of being in the presence of God is that you either forget about yourself altogether or see yourself as a very small object. It is better to forget about yourself altogether.” C.S. Lewis

Prayer For Our Country

2 Chronicles 7:14

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Look at who is to humble themselves, pray, and seek His face. It’s not the world – it’s God’s people! We complain about the state of our nation when it’s God’s people, not the lost, who need to take action. Blind people can’t see.

Though Israel is not a direct representation of the church, this passage does help us understand that God calls for His people to respond in prayer. Furthermore, though God did not promise to heal the USA, we can be sure that He will heal us and our healing will impact where we live.

“Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”

Prayer of Jabez

1 Chronicles 4:10

“Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked.”

“We honor God by asking for great things when they are a part of His promise. We dishonor Him and cheat ourselves when we ask for molehills where He has promised mountains.” Vance Havner

Prayer of Confession

1 John 1:9

Prayer of the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:26-27

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

The death of my pastor – in the ER with my 12-year-old son near death with DKA – my wife, wheeled into the surgery room for cancer (13x) – the failure of a staff member – the death of a student from my youth group – acquaintances walking away from the faith – covid and its consequences – preaching or singing at the funeral of a friend; times when I went to pray and had nothing. The hurt was too bad. There are many other experiences in my life with the spirit living in me praying for me. The reality of Emmanuel “God with us.”
