I Know Him Because I Met Him

2 Peter 1:16-18

“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.”

While using the HEAR method (see below) consider the following questions:
  • Are you more likely to believe the account of an event from someone who heard it second hand or from an eyewitness?
  • How much confidence does this account give you knowing that it was not only from an eyewitness but one who had been with Jesus His whole ministry, and held to this account even at the cost of his life?

Highlight – what words or phrases jump out at you
Explain – what does the passage mean?
Apply – how does the passage intersect with your life today?
Respond – how is God leading you to respond?
