Prayer of Humility

Luke 18:13-14

“But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The Vessels by Derric Johnson

The Master was searching for a vessel to use; before Him were many, which one would He choose? “Take me,” cried the gold one. “I’m shiny and bright. I’m of great value, I do things just right. My beauty and luster will outshine the rest, and for someone like You, Master, gold would be best.”

The Master just nodded and passed on by – No word at all.

He looked at a silver urn that was narrow and tall. “I’ll serve you, dear Master, I’ll pour out Your wine. I’ll be on Your table whenever you dine. My lines are so graceful, my carvings are true. My silver will certainly complement You.”

Unheeding, the Master passed on to the vessel of brass, wide mouth, shallow, polished like glass. “Here, here,” cried the vessel, I know I will do, place me on Your table for all men to view.”

The Master shook His head. He came next to the vessel of wood, polished and carved, solidly stood. “You may use me, dear Master,” the wooden bowl said, “but I’d rather You use me for fruit, not for bread.”

The Master kept ongoing. Finally, He looked down on the vessel of clay, empty, broken, it helplessly lay. No hope had that vessel the Master might choose, to cleanse, make whole, to fill and to use. But He said, “Oh, this is the vessel I’ve been hoping to find. I’ll mend it and use it, I’ll make it all mine.”

“I need not the vessel with the pride of itself. Nor the one who is narrow to sit on the shelf. Nor the one that is big mouthed and shallow and loud. I don’t need the one who displays it’s contents so proud.” Gently He lifted the vessel of clay, He mended and cleansed it and filled it that day. He spoke to it kindly, “there’s work you must do, just pour out to others what I have poured into you.”

Prayer For Your Enemies

Luke 6:27-28

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”

Sometimes I want to pray, “Please Lord, hit them with a lightning bolt and burn ‘em to a crisp with their eyeballs a bugging out. Then I realize someone wants to pray that about me.

“The whole being of any Christian is Faith and love. Faith brings the man to God; love brings Him to men.” Martin Luther

Prayer For End Times

1 Peter 4:7

“The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”

Revelation 22:20 “He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”

I believe He’s coming soon. I share that with people not to scare them but to encourage them.

Hebrews 10:25 “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

How To Pray

Matthew 6:6

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

The Prayer Of Cyrus Brown

“The proper way for a man to pray,” Said Deacon Lemuel Keyes, “And the only proper attitude is down upon his knees.”

“No, I should say the way to pray,” said Rev. Doctor Wise,

“Is standing straight with outstretched arms and raptured upturned eyes.”

“Oh, no; no, no,” said Elder Slow, “Such posture is too proud:

A man should pray with eyes fast closed and head contritely bowed.”

“It seems to me his hands should be austerely clasped in front

with both thumbs pointing toward the ground,” said Rev. Doctor Blunt.

“Last year, I fell in Hodgkin’s well head first,” said Cyrus Brown,

“with both my heels a-stickin’ up, my head a-pointing down;

“An’ I made a prayer right then an’ there– best prayer I ever said,

the prayinest prayer I ever prayed, a-standing on my head.”

Prayer for Missions

John 15:16

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

Our student mission team was in Nashville. We were headed to a church to provide music, puppets, skits, and help with a VBS and later present our ministry at an assisted living complex. We had completed several presentations along the way, and this would be our last stop. The plan was for our team to sleep in a church-owned home that had plenty of beds and couches to provide us with some rest. After we finished VBS, we discovered the house had been emptied and fumigated to prepare for a sale. We gathered the team together and prayed for God to provide. We completed our last ministry presentation and were packing up the bus when a patient at the home wheeled up to me and thanked us for presenting the Gospel. This several-story complex was huge, and a great crowd was there for the ministry. She asked if she could give us some money, and I politely said it was unnecessary; we were here to serve the Lord. She was quite insistent and told me to wait while she went to her room to get us an offering. When she left, I told a nurse what was happening and let her know that we were not soliciting funds. The nurse laughed and told me this individual had millions, and if she wanted to do something for us – let her – she’s in her right mind. Before we emptied the chapel space, she was back with an envelope.

We thanked her and prayed with her; the nurse standing behind this lady was giving us a unique smile. We finished loading the bus of equipment and hopped on board—all eyes on me. Word gets around. I opened the envelope, and there was enough cash to pay for our hotel rooms for the night. The group of students, and I, will never forget God’s provision for the mission!

Prayer for the Every Day

Romans 12:12

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

“God has a plan for all our lives, but He will not force His plans upon us. To the contrary, He only makes His plans clear to those who genuinely and humbly seek His will. As this day unfolds, let us seek God’s will and obey His Word. When we entrust our lives to Him completely and without reservation, He gives us the strength to meet any challenge, the courage to face any trial, and the wisdom to live in His righteousness and in His peace.”
