We’ve been reading this week about how Jesus is worthy.
Discuss with your small group what you’ve drawn from your reading this week and how God has spoken to you. You can also pull from the questions in each day’s reading.
The HEAR method is also an excellent structure for your discussion as a group. If you aren’t currently in a group we’d love to help you connect with one. Contact sharon@mybelmont.org or go to mybelmont.org/smallgroups

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”

Revelation 5:11-12 “Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
“We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!” Wayne’s World (movie)
This silly phrase was spoken by the characters Wayne and Garth about being in the presence of popular icons. The only way we are worthy to be in the presence of God and give praise in heaven to the Holy One is by His resurrection, sanctification, and glorifying power that transforms us when we come to know Him as our personal Lord and Savior. Because of His power and grace, we are able to join our Christian family in worshiping the Lord. It all begins with Him and ends with Him.
Worthy is the Lamb, may our focus be on Him!
While using the HEAR method (see below) consider the following:
Have you ever experienced the sense of overwhelm in the difference between yourself and our Creator and Sovereign God?

“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
If you were to quiz the praise band on my favorite worship song, at least a few of them would know it right off the bat. From the first time they introduced it, “Made Alive” by Citizens really connected me to worship. There’s something about a new song that helps us see something in a different light. It might reveal an idea in a way that we hadn’t considered, or use just the right words and melody to pinpoint a feeling that we hadn’t been able to put into words ourself. In fact, when we say that we’re “singing a new song”, or “there’s a new song in my heart”, we mean that we’ve had a shift in our perspective. In Psalm 40, we see David in despair. He describes his condition as being stuck in a muddy pit. He celebrates that God has heard His cry and delivered him, placing him on firm ground. Along with his change of location, God has put a new song in his mouth.
In today’s passage, those around the throne had been singing and praising, but they added a new song to their repertoire. This new song pointed to the worthiness of Christ to open the seals of the scroll because of His sacrifice. His selfless gift made his followers into a kingdom, in which they would reign and be priests.
May God put a new song in your heart today, as you focus on what He has done and what He has called us to be about in His name.
While using the HEAR method (see below) consider the following questions:
What is your favorite worship song? What is the most powerful thing about that song to you? (share in the comments below)
What character of God or truth about your relationship with Him can you focus on today as a new song in your heart?

Now read Revelation 5:1-5 and see how all authority for the destruction of evil and new beginning for God’s people, is given to Jesus Christ.
Revelation 5:1-5
“Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it,and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Use the HEAR method as you spend time with today’s scripture.
