“For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”
There have been numerous times God has answered my seeking and knocking. When Treva and I were first married, someone gave us a third-hand refrigerator that lasted long enough to get our first groceries cooled before it gave out. We were in revival and heard a sermon on this very topic of seeking and asking. Everyone was encouraged to share something they were requesting in prayer. I thought mine was silly and insignificant. I no sooner had voiced my need when someone said they had just bought a new unit and we’re looking for someone to take the old one. Boom! Refrigerator from the Lord in my lap. The biggest things granted to me from the Lord were not things. Wisdom, direction, guidance, and healing were on the long lists of God’s grace.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
I have missed blessings and opportunities because I was afraid to ask. I didn’t seek and knock because I thought it was out of reach. With God, all things are possible. I have found we must take the opportunity of a lifetime during the lifetime of the opportunity.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
If you’re interested, you’ll do what’s convenient. If you’re committed, you’ll do whatever it takes. Sometimes our prayer life is like a diet – we’re good ’till ice cream comes along.
“Slowly and surely, we learn the great secret of life, which is to know God.” Oswald Chambers

“This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
“I cannot say OUR if I live in a logic-tight spiritual compartment thinking only people who agree with me are going to heaven. I cannot say FATHER if I do not demonstrate that relationship in my daily life. I cannot say WHICH ART IN HEAVEN if I am so occupied with the earth that I am laying up no treasure there. I cannot say HALLOWED BE THY NAME if I, who am called by His name, am not holy. I cannot say THY WILL BE DONE if I am questioning, resentful or disobedient to His will for me. I cannot say ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN if I am not prepared to devote my life here to His service. I cannot say GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD if I am living on past experience or looking elsewhere for satisfaction and motivation. I cannot say FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE THAT TRESPASS AGAINST US if I harbor a grudge against anyone. I cannot say LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION if I deliberately place myself or remain in a position where I am likely to be tempted. I cannot say DELIVER US FROM EVIL if I am not prepared to fight it in the spiritual realm with the weapon of prayer. I cannot say THINE IS THE KINGDOM if I do not afford the King the disciplined obedience of a loyal subject. I cannot say THINE IS THE POWER if I fear what men may do or what my neighbors may think. I cannot say THINE IS THE GLORY if I am seeking glory for myself. I cannot say FOR EVER AND EVER if my horizon is bound by the things of time. I cannot say AMEN if I do not also add the phrase “cost what it may.” Because to say this prayer honestly will take everything I have.”

“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Evangelist Anis Shorrosh taught me to pray in the first person. When you pray “my Father, my God, my Savior,” it changes the perception of the conversation and makes it more personal.
“A holy life will produce the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns; they only shine.” D.L. Moody
